Walkin' Boulder: I did it!

To start the story at the end, I did it! I finished the Disneyland Half Marathon on Sunday, just about on target at 3 hours, 32 minutes, walking all the way. I wasn’t first, but I wasn’t last, either! Got the medal, got the T-shirt!
I was hampered a bit by my sore left foot, which kicked up again early in the race. I will have to get it looked at – it seemed to be okay when I left for California, but by the time we were a couple of miles into the course it was pretty painful. I kept up a pretty good pace regardless, but I was hurting. I would like to think I could have come in under 3½ hours if it hadn’t been hurting so much.
Other than that the challenge was fun – the course through the California Adventure park and Disneyland theme park was a treat, with Disney characters all along to pose for pictures with the runners. A lot of the race went through an industrial area of Anaheim and wasn’t as interesting, but toward the end we walked through the ballpark where the Angels play, where lots of people were cheering us on. We also got some interesting looks at the back lots of Disneyland where they make floats and animatronic animals, keep the little trains, and generally keep the park running. Many of the employees were out to watch, too, as they were on the way to work, and gave us their encouragement.
My brother, sister-in-law and cousin all finished well.
I will write more about the race and our trip in my next post, with pictures of course!
Here is a picture I took after crossing the finish line, and one with my medal.
